How to convert HEIC to JPEG

  1. Choose your photos with the button above, or drag them onto the box.
  2. Keep JPG selected. On this page the File ending under Options is already set to .jpeg. Change it to .jpg if you prefer.
  3. Download. One photo saves as a .jpeg file. Several come as one ZIP: IMG_1234.HEIC becomes IMG_1234.jpeg.

On our test Mac on 29 October 2026, Chrome converted a 12 megapixel iPhone-size HEIC in 0.8 seconds, a 48 megapixel one in 3.3 seconds, and a batch of twenty 12 megapixel photos in about 4.5 seconds. Phones are slower, but nothing waits in an upload queue.

Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs inside this browser tab, and the page is only allowed to talk to this website. To check, load the page, turn on Airplane Mode, and convert: it still works. How it works shows the full proof.

JPEG vs JPG: the same format

JPEG and JPG are two names for the same image format. The letters stand for the Joint Photographic Experts Group, the group that made it. Old versions of Windows only allowed three letters after the dot, so ".jpg" became common, while Mac and Linux used ".jpeg". The picture inside the file is exactly the same.

So why does the ending matter? Some upload forms check the letters after the dot, not the file itself. A job portal, visa form or school site might list "JPEG" and reject a file that ends in .jpg, or the other way round. This page saves .jpeg so the file matches what the form asks for. If a form wants .jpg, use the HEIC to JPG converter or switch File ending under Options.

You can also rename a file yourself: changing .jpg to .jpeg (or back) does not damage it, because the contents are the same.

Fit a size limit on an upload form

Forms that are strict about the file ending are often strict about size too. Under Options:

Form says Set this
"Max 2 MB" Fit under 2 MB
"Max 500 KB" Fit under 500 KB, and Max size 1080 px
"Image must be under 2000 pixels" Max size 1080 px (2048 is too large for that rule)

Fit under lowers the quality first, then the picture size, until each file is under the limit. The date the photo was taken stays in the file either way.

Questions

Is JPEG better than JPG?

No. They are the same format with two spellings of the file ending. Quality, size and colors are identical.

Why does a website say my JPG is the wrong format?

Some forms check only the letters after the dot. If the form lists JPEG, save with the .jpeg ending (the default on this page). If it lists JPG, switch File ending to .jpg under Options.

Does converting HEIC to JPEG lose quality?

JPEG uses different compression from HEIC, so it is not a bit-for-bit copy. At quality 90 (the default) the difference is not visible in normal viewing. Set quality to 100 for the most detail.

Are the photos uploaded?

No. They are converted inside your browser tab. The page can only connect back to this website, and it keeps working with Airplane Mode on.

Will the date taken be kept?

Yes. The date taken, camera details and location are copied into each JPEG by default. Choose Remove location under Options before posting photos online.

Can I convert many HEIC photos to JPEG at once?

Yes, with no set limit. For whole folders, see bulk HEIC to JPG.
