How to Convert HEIC to JPG

To convert HEIC to JPG, open the photos in a free converter in your browser, such as the one on our home page, and download them as JPG. Every device also has a built-in way, shown below for Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.

Updated

Quick answer by device

Device Built-in way Best for many photos
Windows Photos app, Save as JPG (needs the HEIF and HEVC extensions) Browser converter, one ZIP
Mac Finder, Quick Actions, Convert Image Finder Quick Action or the browser converter
iPhone Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible (new photos only) The NoHEIC app or the browser converter
Android Depends on the phone and gallery app Browser converter in Chrome

On Windows

Windows 10 and 11 need two Microsoft Store add-ons to open HEIC photos in the Photos app: HEIF Image Extensions (free) and HEVC Video Extensions (paid, $0.99 per Microsoft). Once both are installed, open a photo in Photos and use Save as with the JPG type. That works one photo at a time. Full steps: HEIC to JPG on Windows.

On Mac

Macs read HEIC already. Select photos in Finder, right-click, choose Quick Actions, then Convert Image, and pick JPEG. This needs macOS Monterey or later. Preview's File, Export also works. Full steps: HEIC to JPG on Mac.

On iPhone

To stop new photos being HEIC, go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. Old photos stay HEIC. To convert those, use the Shortcuts app, this website in Safari, or the NoHEIC app. Full steps: HEIC to JPG on iPhone.

On Android

Android 9 and later can read HEIC on phones that support it, but there is no standard "save as JPG" button. The simple fix is the browser converter in Chrome. Full steps: HEIC to JPG on Android.

In any browser, on any device

The HEIC to JPG converter on our home page works the same on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone:

  1. Open the page and choose your photos, or drop a folder.
  2. Keep JPG selected. Set quality, size limits or location removal under Options if you need them.
  3. Download one JPG, or one ZIP for a batch, with the original names kept.

Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded: the photos are converted inside the browser tab. The date taken is kept, so the JPGs still sort in the right order. For whole folders, see bulk HEIC to JPG. If you need PNG or PDF instead, use HEIC to PNG or HEIC to PDF.

Questions

What is the fastest way to convert HEIC to JPG?

For a batch on any computer, a browser converter that works on your device is quickest: no install, no upload queue. On our test Mac on 29 October 2026, Chrome converted twenty 12 MP photos in about 4.5 seconds.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG without software?

Yes. Use a browser converter. Macs and iPhones also have built-in tools; Windows needs Store extensions for its built-in route.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

JPG compresses differently, so it is not an exact copy, but at quality 90 or above the difference is not visible in normal viewing. The JPG will usually be larger than the HEIC.

How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?

Settings, Camera, Formats, then Most Compatible. New photos are JPG from then on.

Is it safe to use an online HEIC converter?

Many online converters upload your photos to their servers. Ours converts on your own device instead: here is how to check.

On iPhone or iPad?
