Remove Metadata From Photo
Add your photos here to remove their metadata, such as the GPS location, camera and dates, right in your browser. JPG and PNG photos are cleaned without touching the picture, and nothing is uploaded.

How to remove metadata from a photo
- Choose your photos with the button above, or drag them onto the box. JPG, PNG and HEIC photos all work, many at once.
- Pick what to remove:
- Remove location only. The GPS position goes; the date, camera and other details stay.
- Remove all but the date. Everything goes except the date and time the photo was taken, so it still sorts in the right order.
- Remove everything. No date, no camera, no location.
- Download. One photo saves on its own. Several come as one ZIP, with each file keeping its name.
Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs inside this browser tab, and the page is only allowed to talk to this website. To check, load the page, turn on Airplane Mode, and convert: it still works. How it works shows the full proof. That matters here more than anywhere: a photo with a location in it should not be sent to a stranger's server just to have the location removed.
What happens to each kind of photo
| Photo type | What the tool does | Picture quality |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | Removes the metadata blocks from the file and leaves the picture data alone | Untouched: no re-compression (lossless) |
| PNG | Removes the metadata chunks and leaves the pixels alone | Untouched (lossless) |
| HEIC | Converts the photo to JPG and cleans it at the same time | Saved as a high-quality JPG |
Why are HEIC photos changed to JPG? Browsers can read HEIC but cannot write it, so there is no way to save a cleaned HEIC from a web page. The JPG is made at high quality and opens everywhere.
The photo's rotation is always kept, so the cleaned photo still stands upright. Without it, many photos would turn sideways after cleaning.
Remove location from a photo before you share it
Phones save the GPS position of most photos. Post a photo of your home, your child's school or your car, and the original file can show exactly where it was taken. Some social networks remove it when you post, but email, chat apps that send "as a file", cloud links, online marketplaces and forums often pass the file along as it is.
Quick ways to avoid it:
- On iPhone: in the share sheet, tap Options at the top and turn off Location before sending.
- For many photos at once: use this tool with Remove location only.
- To check a single photo: open it in the HEIC viewer, which shows the saved location, if any.
Converting HEIC photos anyway? The HEIC to JPG converter has the same "Remove location" option under Options.
Questions
Does removing metadata reduce photo quality?
Not for JPG and PNG. Only the metadata blocks are removed; the picture data is copied unchanged. HEIC photos are converted to a high-quality JPG while cleaning, because browsers cannot save HEIC.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser tab. The page can only connect back to this website, and it works with Airplane Mode on.
What is photo metadata?
Extra information saved inside the file, often called EXIF: the date and time, the camera and lens, camera settings, and often the GPS location where the photo was taken.
Can I remove only the location?
Yes. Choose Remove location only. The date, camera and other details stay.
Will my photos still be in date order?
Yes, with Remove location only or Remove all but the date. Remove everything also deletes the date taken, so apps may sort those photos by file date instead.
Why did my photo not turn sideways after cleaning?
The tool keeps the rotation setting on purpose, so photos stay upright in every app.
Can I clean HEIC photos and keep them as HEIC?
Not in a browser, because browsers cannot write HEIC files. They are saved as JPG instead.
