How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Choose your photos with the button above, or drag them onto the box. You can pick many at once.
  2. Check that PNG is selected. Open Options if you want a smaller size, or want to remove the location.
  3. Download. One photo saves as a PNG. Several come as one ZIP file, and each keeps its name: IMG_1234.HEIC becomes IMG_1234.png.

On our test Mac on 29 October 2026, Chrome converted a 12 megapixel iPhone-size HEIC in 0.8 seconds, a 48 megapixel one in 3.3 seconds, and a batch of twenty 12 megapixel photos in about 4.5 seconds. Phones are slower, but nothing waits in an upload queue.

Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs inside this browser tab, and the page is only allowed to talk to this website. To check, load the page, turn on Airplane Mode, and convert: it still works. How it works shows the full proof.

When PNG is the right pick

PNG is a "lossless" format. It saves every pixel exactly, with no extra compression damage. That makes it a good choice when:

  • You will edit the photo again and again, and do not want quality to drop a little with each save.
  • A design tool asks for PNG. Cricut Design Space, sticker makers, print shops and some website builders prefer or require PNG files.
  • You will add text or graphics on top, then cut out parts of the image later.

For everything else, such as email, sharing, or uploading to a form, JPG is usually better. The HEIC to JPG converter makes files that look the same to most eyes and are far smaller.

Things to know about PNG from an iPhone

Question Answer
Will my PNG have a see-through background? No. iPhone HEIC photos have no transparent parts, so the PNG has none either. Removing a background is a separate editing job
How big will the files be? Much bigger than JPG, and bigger than the HEIC. Lossless means no size savings from compression
Is the date taken kept? Yes. The date, camera details and location are copied into the PNG by default. Choose "Remove location" under Options to drop the location
Is the photo the right way up? Yes. The rotation from the camera is applied, so the PNG opens upright in every app

If a PNG is too large for an upload, set Max size to 2048 or 1080 pixels under Options. A smaller picture makes a much smaller file.

Questions

Is this HEIC to PNG converter free?

Yes. There is no limit on the number of photos, no watermark, no account and no ads. Your own device does the work, so it costs us almost nothing to run.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The converter runs inside your browser tab and the page can only connect back to this website. Load the page, turn on Airplane Mode, and it still converts.

Does HEIC to PNG lose quality?

PNG adds no compression loss of its own: the decoded photo is saved pixel for pixel. It will look the same as the original in normal viewing.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?

HEIC uses strong compression made for photos. PNG uses lossless compression, which works well for logos and screenshots but cannot shrink a photo much. If size matters, use HEIC to JPG instead, or set a smaller Max size under Options.

Can I make a PNG with a transparent background from an iPhone photo?

Not with a converter. A photo from the camera has no transparent areas. You need an editing tool to cut out the background first. Once you have converted to PNG, you can open the file in such a tool.

Can I convert many HEIC files to PNG at once?

Yes. Pick or drop as many as you like and download them all as one ZIP. On a phone, groups of 50 to 100 photos work best because phones have less memory.

Does it work on Windows?

Yes. It runs in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, and in Safari on Mac and iPhone. There is nothing to install.

On iPhone or iPad?
