Remove Location From Photo

Add your photos here to remove the GPS location saved inside them. The date and camera details stay, so the photos still sort in order, and nothing is uploaded.

How to remove location from a photo

  1. Choose your photos with the button above, or drag them onto the box. JPG, PNG and HEIC photos work, many at once.
  2. Keep "Location only" selected. This removes the GPS position and leaves the date, camera and other details. Pick All but the date or Everything if you want more removed.
  3. Download. One photo saves on its own. Several come as one ZIP file, with each photo keeping its name.

JPG and PNG photos are cleaned without re-compressing, so the picture is untouched. HEIC photos come back as high-quality JPGs, because browsers cannot save HEIC files.

Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs inside this browser tab, and the page is only allowed to talk to this website. To check, load the page, turn on Airplane Mode, and convert: it still works. How it works shows the full proof.

Remove location on iPhone, Mac and Android

You can also remove the location with the apps you already have:

  • iPhone, one share: select the photos in Photos, tap Share, tap Options at the top, and turn off Location. The copy you send has no location; the photo in your library keeps it.
  • iPhone, the photo itself: open the photo, tap the info button, tap Adjust next to the location, then choose No Location.
  • Mac, Preview: open the photo, choose Tools, then Show Inspector, open the GPS tab and click Remove Location Info. If there is no GPS tab, no location is saved.
  • Android: many gallery apps let you remove the location under the photo's details, but the steps differ by phone. This tool works in Chrome on any Android phone.

These built-in ways are fine for one photo. For a folder of photos, or photos from several phones, this tool does them all at once.

Stop new photos saving a location

On iPhone, go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Location Services, then Camera, and choose Never. New photos will not record where they were taken. Photos you already took keep their location until you remove it.

On Android, open the Camera app settings and turn off the location or GPS tag option. The name differs by phone.

Check that the location is gone

Open a cleaned photo in the EXIF viewer. The Location line should say "None saved in this photo". To strip every detail, not only the location, use the remove metadata tool.

Questions

Does removing the location change the photo?

Not for JPG and PNG. Only the location data is removed; the picture data is copied as it is. HEIC photos are saved as high-quality JPGs, because browsers cannot save HEIC.

Is the date taken kept?

Yes. With Location only, the date, time, camera and lens details stay. The photos still sort in the right order in any app.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser tab, on your own device. The page can only connect back to this website, and it works with Airplane Mode on.

Can I remove the location from many photos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and download them as one ZIP. On a phone, groups of 50 to 100 work best.

Do social media apps remove the location for me?

Some remove it from the copy they post, but email, cloud links, marketplaces and chat apps that send the original file often keep it. Removing it yourself is the safe way.

How do I know if a photo has a location saved?

Open it in the EXIF viewer. It shows the saved position, or says none is saved.
